Mon. 3/11: Ben Franklin and Response
First we have that final vocab quiz to do. Once that's done, you'll have the rest of the period to read the Ben Franklin piece and its response. If everyone finishes reading in time, we'll begin to discuss. If not, we'll talk tomorrow.
As you read and annotate, consider the following questions:
1. Is the Ben Franklin piece serious or not? How can you tell?
2. How would you classify "Ben Franklin Ruined my Life as a Cougar?"
What form does it take?
What is the attitude of the speaker? How would you describe the speaker overall? What is she like? How do you know?
What is the purpose of allusion in the piece? (Google any allusions you don't recognize.)
Metaphors/Similes? How do these enhance the overall image, and how does that impact the message of the piece?

Tue. 3/15: No School for Seniors. Work on that I-Search!
Wed. 3/16: Discuss Franklin/ Read A Modest Proposal
Focusing on the questions presented on Monday, we'll briefly discuss the two pieces centering around Ben Franklin. This should take about 1/3 of the period. You'll have the other two thirds to read the Swift piece and think about how you could use the approaches Swift employs to create your own satire of the school's dress code.
Thu. 3/17: Receive Satire Creation Assignment/ Discuss Proposal
We'll be doing a Second City-style approach to the satire in this piece. Should be fun, and we'll have about ten or fifteen minutes to discuss the piece at the end.
Fri. 3/18: Complete First Draft of I-Search Due/Bill and Betty
